According to Britannica, the life expectancy of servants greatly depends on the destination. For instance, those who were taken to the Caribbean had significantly shorter lives compared to those who landed in North America. Jamaica imported over 750,000 slaves, yet at the time of emancipation in 1838, there were just over 300,000 on the island. In contrast, North America imported 427,000 Africans, and by the time of total emancipation in 1865, there were over 4,000,000 blacks.
